Abuja(Core Reporters) Nigerian House of Representatives has approved a whopping sim of one hundred million naira (₦100 million) support package for Nigerian athletes, demonstrating the legislature’s commitment to boosting the country’s sports development drive, led by Senator John Owan Enoh.
This significant gesture aims to motivate and encourage Nigerian athletes to excel in international competitions, promoting national pride and unity.
The speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon Tajudden Abbas, while announcing the house support to the athletes said, “We recognize the importance of sports in nation-building and the potential of our athletes to bring glory to our great nation. This support is a token of our appreciation for their dedication and hard work,”
‘This funding will be channeled through the Federal Ministry of Sports Development to support athletes’ training, equipment, and competition expenses,” said speaker.
Sports Minister, Senator John Owan Enoh, expressed his gratitude for the support, stating, “I thank the hallowed chamber for their patriotism. This gesture is a commitment from the legislators to foster national unity through sports and boost the international reputation of the country, using sports as an instrument for international relations.”
Enoh said the approved funds will be utilized to enhance the preparation and performance of athletes, ensuring they have the necessary resources to compete at the highest levels. This initiative reflects the government’s dedication to supporting sports and recognizing the hard work and dedication of Nigerian athletes.
