Nathaniel’s Commonwealth Gold: NPF Reaffirms Commitment to Institutional Sports, Personnel Welfare

Abuja (Core Reporters) The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has reaffirmed its commitment to promoting institutional sports and enhancing personnel welfare following the historic gold medal victory of Police Corporal Ezekiel Nathaniel at the ongoing Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
Nathaniel produced a dominant performance in the men’s 400 metres hurdles final on Friday night, clocking 48.47 seconds to win the Commonwealth title. The triumph marks a significant improvement from his sixth-place finish at the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games.
Reacting to the achievement, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Riliwan Disu, congratulated the athlete for bringing honour to both Nigeria and the Police Force through his outstanding performance on the international stage.
The IGP described Nathaniel’s victory as a reflection of discipline, resilience and excellence, noting that it serves as an inspiration to police officers across the country.
According to the Force leadership, the gold medal is the product of sustained institutional support for sports development within the Nigeria Police Force. It stated that the success aligns with the IGP’s strategic agenda on police sports development, personnel welfare and capacity building.
The Force added that it remains committed to identifying, nurturing and supporting sporting talents among its personnel, while positioning sports as a key component of tactical fitness, institutional morale and youth engagement.
The Inspector-General, on behalf of the management, officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force, congratulated Corporal Nathaniel on his historic achievement and wished him greater success in his sporting career.
