IGP Vows to Champion Pension Reforms, Support Families of Officers

Abuja (Core Reporters) The Inspector General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday met with a delegation of retired police officers to address critical welfare concerns, placing the resolution of pension and gratuity issues at the forefront of the Force’s agenda.

During the meeting, the IGP highlighted the persistent challenges surrounding pensions and salaries, describing them as urgent matters requiring immediate attention. He reaffirmed the commitment of his administration to pursuing lasting solutions, while urging retirees to remain patient as the leadership navigates the necessary administrative processes.
In a significant move to advance the welfare of retired officers, the IGP outlined two key channels through which their grievances will be escalated to the highest levels of government. First, through an executive liaison mechanism, retirees are encouraged to submit formal petitions directly to the IGP, who pledged to personally present them to the President in advocacy for the signing of the pension bill. Second, he assured retirees of full protection for lawful civic engagement, guaranteeing their rights to peaceful demonstration where necessary.
As part of efforts to support officers’ families, the IGP also announced plans to work with relevant authorities to improve employment opportunities for the children of retired personnel during future recruitment exercises.
Concluding the meeting, the police chief emphasized that the dignity and financial security of retired officers remain non-negotiable. He reiterated that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to the welfare of its personnel, both in active service and in retirement.

In another develooment, the IGP Disu, received the Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) during a courtesy visit at the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
The visit provided an opportunity for strategic discussions on strengthening collaboration between the Nigeria Police Force and the NYSC, particularly in ensuring the safety and security of corps members across the country.
IGP Disu emphasized the importance of sustained partnership in promoting youth development, national unity, and the protection of lives and property, while assuring of the Force’s continued commitment to supporting NYSC activities nationwide.
