Group Condemns Alleged Inciting Comments Attributed to Fadahunsi Over Osun Guber
By Our Reporter
Abuja (Core Reporters) A group under the auspieces of National Democratic Youths Vanguard (NDYV) has strongly condemned comments allegedly made by Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, representing Osun East Senatorial District in the National Assembly, in connection with the forthcoming Osun State governorship election.
The organisation said the alleged remarks, contained in a video currently circulating online, are capable of heightening political tension and threatening peaceful participation in the electoral process.
The senator is alleged to have instructed his supporters to attack or kill members of the Accord Party ahead of Saturday’s governorship election and to prevent members of the party from voting.
In the video, the speaker identified as Senator Fadahunsi was translated as saying: “From now on, whenever you see Accord members, kill them. I authorise you to kill them. They have wives and children too. This is a Federal Government election. On election day, even if they come with voter cards, we won’t allow them to vote.”
Reacting to the development, the National Coordinator of NDYV, Comrade Jervis Eteng, described the alleged comments as deeply disturbing, particularly coming from a serving senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
In a statement signed by the organisation’s Director of Media and Publicity, Raphael Ekpang, and made available to newsmen on Wednesday in Abuja, Eteng said political differences should never be allowed to degenerate into threats against the lives and democratic rights of citizens.
According to him, any individual, regardless of political status or position, who makes statements capable of encouraging violence must be held accountable under the law.
Eteng expressed concern over the content of the viral video and urged the appropriate authorities to investigate the authenticity and context of the recording.
He further called on relevant security and law-enforcement authorities to invite Senator Fadahunsi for questioning if the allegations are established, stressing that threats of violence and attempts to prevent citizens from exercising their constitutional right to vote must not be tolerated.
The NDYV National Coordinator also urged security agencies to take necessary steps to protect all political parties, candidates, voters, journalists and election observers before, during and after the election.
He appealed to supporters of all political parties in Osun State to remain calm and resist provocation, emphasizing that no political contest is worth the loss of human lives.
NDYV reiterated its call for a peaceful, free, fair and credible election in Osun State, urging the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure that every eligible voter is allowed to exercise their franchise without intimidation, harassment or violence.
The organisation also called on political leaders to caution their supporters against inflammatory rhetoric and to use lawful democratic and judicial channels to address disagreements arising from the electoral process.
