From Lab to Ballot: Pharmacist Chris Orazulike Loses NDC Ticket to Peter Obi, Dedicates Disease Theory to Former Rival

By Raphael Ekpang

Abuja (Core Reporters) Pharmacist Chris Orazulike, a Nigerian researcher and politician, has said he will dedicate his Liver-Redox Disease Theory to former Anambra State Governor and 2027 presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, on December 8, following his defeat in the party’s presidential primary.

Orazulike, who hails from Anambra State, contested the NDC presidential ticket after defecting from the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), but lost to Obi, who emerged as the party’s flag bearer for the 2027 general election.

Despite the outcome of the primary, Orazulike said his commitment to scientific research and electoral reform remained unwavering.

The pharmacist has spent several years developing a scientific proposition that identifies the liver as a central organ in the prevention and management of diseases.

His research, titled “Global Disease Burden: New Prospects of a Panacea Through Liver-Dependent Immunomodulation,” presents what he describes as the Liver-Redox Disease Theory (LRDT), also known as the Redox Theory of Diseases (RTD).

The theory proposes that diseases are associated with abnormal cell death arising from disturbances in the body’s redox balance, particularly where optimal liver function is compromised.

According to Orazulike, impaired liver function can disrupt the balance between pro-oxidants and antioxidants, weaken immune responses and create conditions that encourage disease development.

He explained that the liver plays several critical roles in maintaining the body’s immune and metabolic balance, including the production of glutathione, a major antioxidant, storage of essential vitamins, production of immune-signalling proteins and metabolism of drugs and toxins.

Orazulike said his research drew on a review of 173 scientific publications accessed through Medline, ScienceDirect and ResearchGate.

Based on the findings, he proposed a therapeutic approach known as Hepatoimmunotherapy (HIT), which focuses on protecting and optimising liver function through nutrition, hepatoprotection and reduced exposure to harmful substances.

However, the theory remains a research proposition and has not been established as a clinically proven treatment for all diseases. The paper is a literature review rather than a clinical trial, and its claims require further scientific investigation and validation.

At a press conference in Abuja, Orazulike disclosed that his food-based nutrient product, known as the FUDELT method, was undergoing preparations for regulatory evaluation and possible clinical trials.

Beyond his scientific pursuits, Orazulike also outlined his political priorities, identifying the affordability of healthcare services as a major challenge confronting Nigerians.

He advocated reforms that would improve access to healthcare, while emphasising the importance of preventive healthcare and nutrition.

He also called for expanded irrigation infrastructure, particularly in northern Nigeria, to strengthen agricultural productivity, improve food security and support better national health outcomes.

On electoral integrity, Orazulike unveiled his non-partisan Our Votes Must Count movement, aimed at discouraging electoral malpractice through lawful and strategic interventions.

“We are not going to fold our hands and watch people rig elections. We will use lawful and intellectual strategies to ensure the will of the people prevails,” he said.

Explaining his decision to contest the NDC presidential primary, Orazulike said his major motivation was the need to promote credible elections, insisting that the integrity of the electoral process remained fundamental to Nigeria’s development.

“A free and fair election is all that Nigeria needs to move forward,” he said.

His contest against Obi presented an interesting political dimension, with both men originating from Anambra State and placing considerable emphasis on electoral credibility and national development.

While Obi’s economic philosophy centres on production, investment and moving Nigeria from a consumption-driven economy to a productive one, Orazulike’s proposed priorities place greater emphasis on affordable healthcare, disease prevention and the relationship between public health and national productivity.

Although he acknowledged the challenges of competing against established political structures and a nationally recognised political figure, Orazulike maintained that a transparent electoral process would give every aspirant a fair opportunity.

He said his defeat in the primary would not diminish his commitment to the Our Votes Must Count initiative or his scientific research.

Orazulike’s planned dedication of his Redox Theory of Diseases to Obi on December 8 is expected to add an unusual dimension to their political relationship, transforming what was a contest for the same presidential ticket into an occasion for recognising his former rival.

About Pharmacist Chris Orazulike

Pharmacist Chris Orazulike is a Nigerian researcher and politician from Anambra State. He contested the NDC presidential primary ahead of the 2027 general election.

He is the author of the research paper, “Global Disease Burden: New Prospects of a Panacea Through Liver-Dependent Immunomodulation,” published in the International Journal of Global Biosciences.

He is also the founder of the Our Votes Must Count movement and is developing the FUDELT method, a food-based nutrient approach intended for further regulatory and clinical evaluation.

The Bottom Line

Orazulike’s Liver-Redox Disease Theory presents an ambitious scientific proposition that places liver function and redox balance at the centre of disease prevention and management. Whether the hypothesis can withstand rigorous clinical testing remains to be established.

His political journey has also taken an unexpected turn, having lost the NDC presidential ticket to Obi but choosing to dedicate his scientific work to the man who defeated him.

For Orazulike, the ballot may have produced a political setback, but his scientific ambitions and campaign for electoral integrity appear far from over.
