The Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom has called on the management of the Benue State University Makurdi, to establish a College of Engineering at the institution.
Governor Ortom who made the call on Monday while receiving the report presented to him by the committee for the establishment of a Centre for Emerging Infections and Tropical Diseases, Intelligence and Management (CEITDIM) at the Benue People’s House Makurdi, assured that his administration was ready to turn the university into a hub of academic’s excellence.
He said because the College of Health Sciences of the university was impacting greatly to the well being of people of the state in particular and the nation at large, said he believed that establishment of a college of engineering, would create an impact by training of manpower in that field and infrastructural development in the state.
The governor while commending the committee for a job well done, said when the CEITDIM is established, it would contribute to tackling infectious diseases and other health challenges.
Earlier in his speech, chairman of the committee who is also the commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr Emmanuel Ikwulonu who explained that the committee budgeted 2.28 billion naira for adjustment and renovation of the Center and with the initial release of one million naira to it as take off grant, appealed to the governor to approve of the increase of personnel and funds to the Center.
