The speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Titus Uba

By Emmanuel Elijah, Makurdi

The Benue State House of Assembly has passed a vote of confidence on the Speaker, Rt Hon Titus Uba for his leadership qualities.

Presenting the motion on the floor of the house, member representing Tiev constituency in Vandeikya Local Government Area, Rt Hon Terkaa Ucha said the Speaker has brought members from different moral, religious backgrounds and political affiliations to work together in unity for the development of Benue State.

The lawmaker stated that since his emergency as speaker of the Ninth Assembly, Rt Hon Uba has performed beyond expectations.

He said his leadership style has endeared him to both his colleagues and staff of the Assembly, a development which has recorded success in the passage of many bills into law including that of the Debt Management Law 2020, the Fiscal Responsibility Law 2020, the Internal Revenue Administration Law 2020, the Public Procurement Law 2020, etc, within a short time, attributing it to the harmonious and cordial working relationship enjoyed among the three arms of government.

The motion was seconded by the member representing Tarka in the House, Rt Hon Bem Mngutyo.

Two bills which were also presented before the House by the Majority Leader, Rt Hon Damian Cheme, went through first and second readings and they include, a law to provide for the establishment of the Benue State Bureau of Archives, Research and Documentation and for purpose connected therewith, 2020 and that of establishment of Medical and Emergency Rescue Services in the state and for purpose therewith 2020 respectively.

The bill on Medical and Emergency Rescue Services is said to be the first of its kind in the country. Both bills were referred to the appropriate standing committee for consideration.
