Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games: NSC Unveils Iroele, Adamu, Ekeji, Others as Ambassadors to Boost Medal Push

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has officially unveiled a distinguished list of Team Nigeria ambassadors ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, signaling the country’s intent for a strong and impactful outing at the global multi-sport event.
The list, approved by the Commission, features prominent figures across sports administration, athlete representation, and corporate partnerships. Among the appointees is Mallam Saleh Ahmadu, alongside respected stakeholders such as Dr. Amos Adamu, Chief Patrick Ekeji, Alhassan Yakmut, and Gbenga Elegbeleye.
These seasoned administrators, many of whom previously served as Director-General of the NSC, bring a wealth of experience expected to benefit Nigeria’s campaign at the Games and beyond.
Also named are former elite athletes and key stakeholders, including Olympic gold medalist Daniel Igali, Blessing Okorodudu, Tajudeen Ogunbade, Khadijat Sulaiman, and Victor Iroele (The veteran broadcaster). The list further includes a representative of Premium Trust Bank and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Wale Adeniyi.
The appointment of these ambassadors underscores Nigeria’s strategic approach to blending administrative expertise, technical knowledge, and athlete representation in its preparations.
The 2026 Commonwealth Games will be held in Glasgow, Scotland, from July 23 to August 2, 2026, bringing together thousands of athletes from about 74 Commonwealth nations and territories.
The Games will feature a streamlined programme of 10 sports, including athletics, swimming, boxing, cycling, and gymnastics, with full integration of para-sports—highlighting inclusivity alongside elite competition on the global stage.
The unveiling of Team Nigeria ambassadors signals a renewed drive by the NSC to strengthen preparations, enhance athlete support systems, and boost Nigeria’s presence on the international sporting stage.
