Dr. Azeez Salako Muyideen Olaniyin, a governorship aspirant in Kwara State under the All Progressives Congress (APC), has identified security and infrastructure as the twin pillars of his campaign.
Speaking in Abuja after obtaining his Expression of Interest and Nomination forms, Olaniyin stressed that securing the state’s borders is essential for economic growth and attracting investors.
He expressed confidence in the party’s leadership and internal processes, dismissing concerns about their credibility. According to him, his trust is based on a close observation of the party’s trajectory and its current direction. Focus on Security, Infrastructure, and Social Services.
Addressing how his administration would differ from the outgoing government, Olaniyin pointed to key development gaps in the state.
“We have our peculiarities. Presently, we are facing security challenges, infrastructure deficits, as well as issues in the health and education sectors. These will be my priorities,” he said.
He emphasized that a secure environment is critical to investment, noting that investors are unlikely to commit resources to unsafe areas. He added that his administration would focus on delivering tangible infrastructure and strengthening territorial security.
On rising insecurity spreading from the Northeast and Northwest into the North Central region, Olaniyin warned that Kwara must take proactive measures. He proposed establishing a specialized local security outfit to complement federal agencies, including the Nigerian Police Force.
“We rely on federal security agencies, and they are doing their best, but it is not enough. We must establish a local security structure to effectively secure our territory,” he stated.
Olaniyin concluded by underscoring the strategic importance of Kwara’s stability, noting that curbing insecurity in the North Central is vital to preventing its spread to other parts of the country.
