APC Calls El-Rufai Out for Being Driven by Raw Self-Interest
Abuja (Core Reporters) The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to the former government of Kaduna state, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, calling him out for being driven by raw self-interest rather than a genuine concern for the country.
This was contained in a press statement issued on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, Esq-responding to the outrageous BBC Hausa service interview of El-Rufai.
The APC argues that El-Rufai’s claim that Tinubu has failed is baseless and a distortion of reality, pointing to tangible progress in various sectors, including economy, governance, and welfare of Nigerians
According to the APC, President Tinubu’s policies have led to significant improvements, in Economic Growth-GDP growth rate surging to 3.8% year-on-year in Q4 2024
Fuel Subsidy Removal-saving Nigeria an estimated ₦4 trillion annually, Unification of Exchange Rates-resulting in higher foreign exchange inflow, Increased Foreign Direct Investment-attracted through President Tinubu’s economic diplomacy and Improved Balance of Payment-with a substantial trade surplus of $14.31 billion in 2024
The APC also notes that El-Rufai’s exit from the party is driven by his own personal interests, rather than any genuine concern for the country’s well-being. They call on El-Rufai to offer constructive criticism or alternative policies, rather than engaging in misleading rhetoric and personal attacks on the President of
“Today (Monday) El-Rufai stands diminished as the epitome of a self-interested politician, blinded by ego, driven by untamed emotion, and brimming with a vengeful desire to “collapse the system.”
“In his BBC interview under reference, El-Rufai supplied the real reason for his soreness, stating that he was disappointed by the way he was treated by President Bola Tinubu and his administration, in ostensible reference to his failed ministerial bid. His claim that he exited because the Party had deviated from its founding values or progressive ideology is a smokescreen to weaponize personal grievance garbed as principled dissent.
“El-Rufai appears traumatized by his failure to land a ministerial position. Nursing a bruised ego, he now lashes out at the platform on which he rode to political prominence,” the statement said.
