Abuja (Core Reporters) The President of the Alumni of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron (AMANO), Mr. Emmanuel Maiguwa, has commended the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Dr. Adegboyega Oyetola, for his visionary leadership and reforms aimed at repositioning Nigeria’s maritime sector for sustainable growth and global competitiveness.
Maiguwa gave the commendation on Wednesday while leading members of the AMANO executive committee on a courtesy visit to the Minister in Abuja. He praised the Ministry’s policy direction and strategic interventions designed to unlock the vast economic potential of Nigeria’s marine and blue economy.
He particularly applauded Dr. Oyetola for driving the development and adoption of Nigeria’s first-ever National Policy on Marine and Blue Economy, describing it as a landmark achievement that provides a comprehensive framework for the sustainable development, regulation and other industry players.
The AMANO President urged the Federal Government to preserve the specialised status of the Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, stressing that the institution remains vital to producing internationally certified maritime professionals and maintaining Nigeria’s competitiveness in the global maritime industry.
He also announced that the association would hold its National Convention and Stakeholders’ Engagement in November and formally invited Dr. Oyetola to chair the event and deliver the keynote address.
Responding, the Minister thanked the alumni association for its support and reaffirmed the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy’s commitment to implementing reforms in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Oyetola said the Ministry is focused on improving the ease of doing business, modernising maritime infrastructure, strengthening regulatory efficiency, promoting indigenous shipping and attracting greater investment into the marine and blue economy.
He assured stakeholders that the Ministry would continue to work closely with industry players to unlock the sector’s full potential, create jobs, boost economic diversification and position Nigeria as the leading maritime hub in West and Central Africa.
