AGF Reaffirms Nigeria Government’s Commitment to Strengthening Police Operations Through Timely Funding.

The Accountant-General of the Federation (AGF), Shamseldeen Babatunde Ogunjimi, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to ensuring the timely release of approved funds to the Nigeria Police Force to enhance national security operations and support the fight against insecurity across the country.
According to Bawa Mokwa, the Director of Press and Public Relations, Dr. Ogunjimi gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Olatunji Rilwan Disu, and members of his delegation to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation in Abuja on Monday, May 11, 2026.
Speaking during the meeting, the AGF acknowledged the critical role of the Nigeria Police Force in maintaining law and order, protecting lives and property, and addressing the country’s evolving security challenges. He stated that effective policing requires sustained institutional support and adequate funding to enable the Force discharge its constitutional responsibilities efficiently and professionally.
He emphasized that the Federal Government remains committed to supporting the operational needs of the Police Force through the prompt release of approved resources aimed at strengthening security interventions and improving public safety nationwide.
Dr. Ogunjimi further noted that the forthcoming off-season elections scheduled for June and August 2026 would require substantial logistical and operational support, assuring the Police leadership of the government’s readiness to provide the necessary financial backing to ensure peaceful, credible, and secure electoral processes.
The AGF also called for sustained collaboration and engagement between the Nigeria Police Force, the Federal Ministry of Finance, and other relevant government institutions to facilitate the resolution of outstanding funding issues, noting that adequate financing remains essential to the success of critical national security operations.
Earlier, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, appealed for the prompt release of outstanding funds owed to the Nigeria Police Force, stressing that adequate funding is crucial to the effective discharge of the Force’s constitutional mandate.
The IGP also underscored the importance of sufficient funding ahead of the forthcoming off-season elections, noting that the Nigeria Police Force would continue to play a central role in ensuring peaceful and orderly electoral processes across the affected states.
