SK Slavia Praha of Czech Republic forward, Peter Olayinka has said that he is ready to prove himself in this 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON) held in the Republic of Cameroon if selected by the interim head coach of the Super Eagles, Austin Eguavoen.
Olayinka in an exclusive chat with Core Reporters in Abuja on Tuesday said, “Not playing for Nigeria is giving me a sleepless night because I want to prove myself.
“If I am given the chance to play in Cameroon especially our first match against Egypt I will really prove why I deserve the call-up by the national team coaches.
However, Eguavoen has assured that he was going to give new players the opportunity to prove themselves in the team in Cameroon.
The Ibadan born Nigeria international made his professional debut on October 20, 2012, in a Kategoria Superiore game against Luftetari, in which he came on as an 84th-minute substitute for Jetmir Sefa in the 2–0 win.
When asked if he can make the team’s first eleven, Olayinka said he was sure that he can make the team’s first eleven, adding that it will offer him the opportunity to really show the world the stuff he is made up of.
“Hopefully I will be among the first eleven players that will play Egypt in our first match in Cameroon.
“I am optimistic we can win the trophy in Cameroon,” Olayinka said.
Slavia Prague signed Olayinka in a four-year contract from Gent for €3,200,000 on July 21, 2018
Meanwhile, because of his talent, there were numerous discussions about making Olayinka the first foreign player of the Albania national football team before he was invited to the Super Eagles in the game between Nigeria and Brazil in 2019.
