The only surviving Nigeria club in the 2020/21 CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup, Enyimba International of Abba were on Sunday booted out of the competition, no thanks to a 1-1 goal apiece recorded at the Enyimba International Stadium, Aba against the visiting Pyramids FC, an Egyptian club side.
Aba Elephants are currently 9th in the Nigeria Professional Football League with two games in hands while their Egyptian opponents, Pyramids FC are currently 5th in the Egyptian Premier League table with two games also in hands.
The Egyptian club side that came into the country in a private jet took the lead 32 minutes into the game when Ibrahim Adel opens scoring for the visitors, but eight minutes later Enyimba replied through Anayo Iwuala’s 40-minute strike.
Fatai Osho’s men lost 4-1 in Cairo last week in the first leg and needed to win by a 3 goal to nil to dump the Egyptian side out of the competition but the two times Champions league titleholder could only manage a stale 1-1 draw at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba to crash out of the CAF Confederations Cup on 5-2 aggregate.
With this result, Enyimba has joined fellow NPFL clubs; Rivers United, Kano Pillars and Plateau United who have been dumped in the early stage of the competitions.
