Umahi Mourns Bishop Peter Nworie Chukwu, Describes Passing as Monumental Loss to Church, Nation
The Honourable Minister of Works, Senator David Nweze Umahi, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of Most Reverend Dr. Bishop Peter Nworie Chukwu, the revered Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Abakaliki.
In a condolence message, Umahi said he received the news with profound grief and a heavy heart, describing the late prelate’s death as the end of an era marked by selfless service, deep spirituality, and uncommon dedication to the work of God.
According to him, Bishop Chukwu was not only a spiritual father to his flock but also a moral compass for society—an embodiment of discipline, humility, and sacrificial leadership.
He noted that as a teacher of the Word and a devoted shepherd of souls, the late Bishop distinguished himself through calm wisdom, compassionate pastoral care, and a rare ability to connect with people from all walks of life.
The Minister observed that at a time when moral clarity and spiritual guidance are most needed in society, the Bishop’s passing leaves a significant void. He, however, emphasized that even in death, his legacy remains a guiding light, reflected in the lives he touched, the faith he strengthened, and the enduring impact of his ministry across Ebonyi State and beyond.
Umahi extended his deepest condolences, on behalf of his family and the Federal Ministry of Works, to the Catholic faithful, the clergy and religious of the Diocese of Abakaliki, as well as the immediate and extended family of the late Bishop.
He also commiserated with all who had the privilege of encountering the Bishop’s remarkable life and ministry.
The Minister prayed that Almighty God would grant the late Bishop eternal rest in His heavenly kingdom and give the Church and all who mourn him the strength and fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
