NISO Sets the Record Straight on Load Allocation Reports
The Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) has clarified recent media reports alleging that some Distribution Companies (DisCos) received zero-megawatt (MW) allocations between March 20 and 22, 2026.
In a statement, the system operator firmly dismissed the claims, stating that at no point during the period in question was any DisCo allocated zero megawatts.
“NISO wishes to clarify recent media publications alleging that some Distribution Companies received zero-megawatt allocation within the stated period. At no time was any DisCo allocated 0 MW. These reports are inaccurate and do not reflect the operational realities of the national grid,” the statement read.
The operator acknowledged that the power system experienced reduced generation during the period due to gas supply constraints. However, it emphasized that available electricity was continuously dispatched and equitably distributed to all DisCos.
NISO further explained that load allocation is guided by the framework of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) through the Multi-Year Tariff Order (MYTO), which ensures fair distribution of available generation based on established principles.
“At no point was any Distribution Company completely excluded from power supply. Variations experienced across locations were due to the overall reduction in generation, not zero allocation to any DisCo,” the statement added.
Reaffirming its commitment to transparency and efficiency, NISO urged stakeholders and the public to rely on verified information from official sources and avoid spreading misleading reports.
