NDLEA Pledges Support for DICAN’s Strategic Programs to Curb Disinformation and Fake News
Abuja (Core Reporters) The Chairman and Chief Executive of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Brigadier General Mohammed Buba Marwa (rtd), has pledged his agency’s support for the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) in its fight against manipulated and fake news targeted at compromising Nigeria’s sovereignty.
He disclosed this in Abuja after being conferred with DICAN’s Prestigious International Award for Bravery and Innovation in the Fight Against Illicit Drugs. The NDLEA boss, represented by the Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, expressed delight that the agency’s reforms and efforts in fighting illicit drugs were recognized and rewarded by the fourth estate of the realm and those on the global stage.
“The honor and recognition given to the chairman and chief executive of the agency and the agency as a whole indicate that what we are doing is not going unnoticed,” he said. “What makes you happy and want to do more is when you get feedback that your efforts are not only making an impact but are also appreciated by people.”
He added that the award serves as motivation for the agency to do more and appreciated DICAN for organizing the first journalists’ event globally, which brought the world together under the theme “Nigeria’s 4Ds Foreign Policy Strategy Amidst Global Security Challenges, Strategic Misperceptions, and the Age of Disinformation: The Role of Diplomacy, Intelligence, and Media in Shaping National and Global Stability.”
The NDLEA Chairman promised to support DICAN in sustaining its initiative for the benefit of the Bureau and the World.
Earlier, the Chairman of DICAN, Idehai Frederick, stated that the choice of NDLEA for the prestigious award was in recognition of its initiatives in the transnational fight against drug syndicates and barons, as well as checking illicit drug activities in the country.
He appealed to relevant stakeholders to support DICAN through capacity building to actualize its vision of equipping its members with the requisite knowledge and skills to identify and tackle the global menace of disinformation and fake news.
