“NJSPB: Security, Regulatory Agencies Are Fully Mobilized to Curb Insecurity, Trafficking, and Corruption – DG NOA
By Raphael Ekpang
The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has stated that security and regulatory agencies in Nigeria are fully mobilized by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to curb insecurity, trafficking, and corruption. He reported that the agencies recorded significant achievements in their mandate in the month of August.
Issa-Onilu disclosed this on Monday, September 8, 2025, during the second edition of the National Joint Security Press Briefing at the agency’s headquarters in Abuja. He reaffirmed the President Tinubu-led government’s commitment to curbing insecurity while strengthening socio-economic stability.
He highlighted the achievements of security and regulatory agencies, such as the Nigerian Armed Forces, Police, NDLEA, EFCC, NAFDAC, and Immigration Service. He noted that these agencies have intensified operations, improved inter-agency coordination, and expanded public communication efforts in line with presidential directives to safeguard lives and ensure national security.
According to the consolidated monthly security report presented by the DG NOA, the Nigerian Army executed 261 operations, the Police made 1,950 arrests, rescued 141 kidnap victims, and dismantled 37 gangs. The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seized 66,255.81 kilograms of narcotics, secured 17 convictions, and deployed 48 new operational vehicles.
The Police carried out 210 targeted operations, leading to 1,950 arrests, the dismantling of 37 gangs, and the rescue of 141 kidnap victims. Authorities also recovered 111 firearms, 48 explosives, and ₦250.74 million in cash.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) secured 588 convictions and recovered over ₦21.06 billion. The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) recovered ₦5.5 billion and established anti-corruption vanguards in schools. The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) intercepted 17 containers of falsified and unsafe products, including counterfeit tomato paste.
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) strengthened border control with 10,803 visas processed, the interception of 50 trafficking victims, and deportation of offenders. The Armed Forces neutralized terrorists in Zamfara, repelled an ISWAP ambush in Borno, and facilitated the surrender of 76 insurgents, including women and children.
These results, according to the NOA boss, reflect positive outcomes from tighter inter-agency coordination, stronger intelligence-led actions, and expanded public-facing communication to counter misinformation in line with presidential directives.
Issa-Onilu said, “Our troops are prioritizing precision strikes guided by actionable intelligence, and citizens’ tips are increasingly translating into lifesaving operations.”
Meanwhile, security analysts projected that arms interdictions will remain preemptive and intelligence-driven, with more leadership arrests and weapons seizures expected as criminal networks are mapped. With expanded operational capacity and citizen-facing communication, officials expressed confidence that Nigeria is steadily closing space for terrorists, traffickers, and criminal syndicates.
