Maiduguri (Core Reporters) The Joint investigation Centre (JIC) Giwa Barracks, Maiduguri, Borno State responsible for investigation and clearance of arrested Boko Haram suspects has revealed that it has concluded the investigations and recommended 1,440 suspects for prosecution.

The assistant commander of the Joint investigation Centre Giwa, Captain Olugbeyiga Henry Adeniyi disclosed this on Tuesday evening when he conducted Defence Correspondents on tour of Operation HADIN KAI around the facilities.

He said, the 1,440 suspects are still awaiting arraignment in Court by the Federal ministry of Justice out of 1,927 inmates currently at the Centre.

According to him, if the 1,440 suspects are arraigned in court automatically they will be taking away from the center and it will reduce greatly the number of inmates at the center, but lament the delay by the Ministry of justice to carry out their duty as at when due.

He also noted that the delay in arraignment of the suspects in court is not healthy to the center, therefore, urged the authorities concern with the arraignment of the suspects to step up their role so that it will decongest the center.

However, he debunked rumours that the Joint Investigation Centre has ten thousand suspects in its custody . “That is not true”, he said, adding that the Centre has never had up to 3,000 suspects in its custody since it inception.”

Core Reporters report that the Centre has several facilities including tailoring section, tradition cloth waiving section such as caps, soap making and liquid detergent making semi factory for women suspects.

The Centre also house laundry section, fish pounds, rabbits rearing section and other that have kept the detainees busy with craft that would be useful to them when eventually they are integrated into the larger society.

Core Reporters can authoritatively report that most of suspects are living in regret of the past because of the way, the center has reshaped their thinking about their past actions and the need to embrace peace as recommende by the hoy books. Some of the suspects were ween playing various games at the center, su h as football, Ludo etc.

Captain Adeniyi expressed confidence that most of the detainees after prosecution if reintegrated to the society will become better citizens, noting that most of them who have been released to the government of Borno State after conclusion of their investigation have been approaching the center for job employment opportunities
