The Nigeria National League (NNL) stakeholders last Friday unanimously adopted the abridged format for the 2020/2021 season.
In a communique issued at the end of a meeting of the NNL stakeholders with the newly appointed management team of the nation’s second-tier league held in Abuja, the stakeholders agreed that 42 clubs will be divided into groups A1, A2, B1, B2; Northern and Southern conference respectively, subject to its congress ratification.
With reference to the death of late Martins Chineme who slumped and die while playing for his team Nasarawa United, the meeting okayed and adopted strict adherence to the provisions of proper medical and insurance cover for players and officials as compulsory for all the clubs to participate in the league.
The communique reads in parts, “ Stakeholders enjoined the new Management to set up a standard and well-equipped media department to promote the NNL brand, the image of the league as well as ensure regular refresher training for clubs’ Media/Communication managers/directors /Officers.
“The meeting recognized the mandate given by the Nigeria Football Federation NFF for the League to start the new season 3- weeks after the commencement of the apex league, the NPFL, subject to its congress ratification.
However, the stakeholders welcome the newly appointed management team of NNL led by Senator Joseph Obinna Ogba
Meanwhile, the management team through its chairman, Sen Ogba assured the stakeholders of a new dawn in the league, stressing that they will work to ensure the league is re-positioned being the most important league in the country.
