CRS Police Command, Laurahope Foundation Strengthen Collaboration Against Cultism

Calabar (Core Reporters) – The Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, has received the management of Laurahope Care and Rescue Foundation as part of efforts to strengthen collaboration against cultism and other social vices in the state.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Cross River Police Command Public Relations Officer, ASP Eitokpah Sunday Akata, on Thursday, September 17, 2026.

According to the statement, the foundation’s delegation, led by its Director, Mr. Hope James, paid a courtesy visit to the Commissioner, during which both sides reviewed existing interventions and explored strategies for expanding community-based programmes targeting youth involvement in cultism.

The engagement followed a recent intervention in Abini Community, Biase Local Government Area, where about 40 youths associated with cult groups publicly renounced cultism and pledged to embrace peaceful and law-abiding lifestyles.

The intervention was carried out by the Police Command in collaboration with the Abini Elites Association and Laurahope Foundation.

During the meeting, the Commissioner and the foundation reviewed the outcome of the Biase initiative and discussed plans to replicate similar interventions in other communities across the state.

James called for stronger collaboration between Laurahope Foundation and the Police Command to sustain the gains recorded in Biase, particularly through rehabilitation and reintegration programmes for youths who renounce cultism.

CP Ordue stressed that while the Police would continue to deploy intelligence-led policing and lawful enforcement against criminal elements, sustainable security also requires preventive measures capable of addressing factors that expose young people to recruitment into cult groups.

He commended Laurahope Foundation, community leaders and other stakeholders for their roles in the Biase intervention, noting that the fight against cultism requires the collective efforts of families, traditional institutions, religious organisations, schools, civil society groups and the wider community.

The meeting ended with a commitment by the Police Command and Laurahope Foundation to deepen their partnership through sustained community-based interventions aimed at preventing cultism, supporting the reintegration of repentant youths and strengthening peace and security across Cross River State.
