Abuja (Core Reporters) Senator Barinada Mpigi representing Rivers State South East Senatorial District at the 10th Senate has lauded president Bola Ahmed Tinubu over the recent assent to the bill establishing Federal University of Environment and Technology, Karoma/Szakpeners, Tal, Ogonl.

Mpigi noted that this landmark decision reaffirms President Tinubu’s commitment to genuine engagement, Inclusive governance, and sustainable development in our.region.

Addressing newsmen on Wednesday at the National Assembly, the senate committee chairman on works, vice chairman senate committee on Oil & Gass and Host communities said the university will serve as a beacon of hope-a place where their youths can acquire knowledge, develop skills, and faster Innovation. Beyond being an Institution, Sen Mpigi said the university will represents a commitment to nurturing the talents and aspirations of our people, ensuring that we contribute meaningfully to our nation and the world.

Been the sponsored of the bill, the lawmaker stated that in sponsoring this Bill, he was fully aware of the vital role this university would play in addressing core aspects of the Ogoni.

While expressing his appreciation to President Tinubu for assenting the bill, he said, “On behalf of the Ogoni representatives at the 10th National Assembly of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, i extend our profound gratitude to His Excellency, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, for graciously assenting to the Bill establishing the Federa University of Environment and Technology, Karoma/Szakpeners, Tal, Ogonl.

“in sponsoring this Bill, I was fully aware of the vital role this university would play in addressing core aspects of the Ogoni question.

“This achievement is not mine alone but a collective effort, embodying the voices of our communities, the resilience of our people, and the unwavering support of our leaders. The labours and sacrifices of our heroes past now rest on our shoulders, and it is our duty to sustain this beacon of hope for future generations.

“I therefore call on the Ogoni people to sheath their swords and remain peaceful yet vigilant as the ongoing dialogue progresses. This moment demands unity and patience as we seek lasting solutions to the challenges confronting Ogoniland. The Journey towards Justice and development is ongoing, and our collective resolve will determine our victory

“As we move forward, we remain committed to providing leadership, advocacy, and unwavering support for the aspirations of the Ogani people. I assure my people that I will continue to be a trusted voice and a dedicated representative, ensuring that the Interests of Ogoniland are championed at every level.

“We cannot condude this statement without acknowledging the leadership of the 10th National Assembly-led by The President of the Senate, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Godswill Obot Akpabio, GCON, and the Speaker of The House of Representatives, Rt. Hon, Tajudeen Albas, GCON-for their Invaluable support in ensuring the swift premage of this crucial Bill. Their commitment to national development and responsiveness to the aspirations of the Ogonil people have been instrumental in making this long-standing dream a reality.

Also recognising the unwavering support of His Excellency, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, GCON, DSSRS, Honourable Minister of the FCT, whose guidance was Instrumental in achieving this milestone.

“Once again, I sincerely appreciata His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for listening to the aspirations the ogoni people and taking decisive action, I remain committed to working with all stakeholders to ensure this Initiative delivers maximum benefits to our people and the nation,” he said.

The elated Senator explained that the immediate past president of the country, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd) had earlier declined assenting the bill during the 9th Assembly after the red and green Chambers of the National Assembly had passed it for third reading, but noted that in the 10th senate the bill was passed and went through concurrent accordingly and Mr President graciously signed it to law.

“When this bill was presented to the President, he signed it in the present of the leadership of Ogoni Caucus of the National Assembly.

“I must thank Mr President because with this he has shown that he is a listening president, he is not a president in party line but that he is the president for all Nigerians.

“I think we must thank President Tinubu for giving concern to the oppressed people of Ogoniland in particular and Niger Delta in general. What the late Ken Saro-Wiwa stand for was the upliftment of the Ogoniland and its people and with what president Tinubu has done today even our past heroes would be smiling in their graves.”
