It was another fierce encounter at the Felix Houphouet Boigny Stadium as the three time African Champions, the Super Eagles of Nigeria took on the unrelenting Palancas Negras.
The Eagles started the game like a house on fire and started to pose threats as early as the first minute, but kudos to the Angolan defence to snuff out the danger.
The Angolans also had a couple of chances to draw first blood but Stanley Nwabali proved his dominance in goal once again.
Few minutes to the first half break, the Super Eagles struck first as Ademola Lookman fantastically drove in Zaidu Sanusi’s ball after beautiful work by Moses Simon.
Later on, Moses Simon also had a chance of his own as he dribbled past two Angolan players skillfully and fired a shot on goal which was just kept out by the Angolan captain.
Victor Osimhen thought he had grabbed his second goal at this tournament and Nigeria’s second as he paved through on goal after an excellent pass but the striker was just offside by the whisker.
Angola had the opportunity to draw level when Gelson Dala did well to get past Semi Ajayi but his strike hit the base of the Cross bar.
This win now means that the Eagles have soared into the semi-finals and will await the winner of the Quarter final game between the Blue Sharks of Cape Verde and South Africa, for a place in the finals of the 34th edition of the African Cup of Nations
