Abuja (Core Reporters) Nigeria President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu has called for sustained unity, discipline, and commitment to reform within the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the party held its 4th Elective National Convention in Abuja.
Addressing party delegates, the President described the convention as a defining moment for both the party and Nigeria’s democracy, urging members to prioritise collective goals over personal ambition. He emphasised that the APC’s strength lies in its unity and cautioned against internal divisions.
“This 4th Elective National Convention of our great party is not merely a gathering; it is a defining chapter in the story of our democracy and our party. It offers us the platform to renew our bond, strengthen our resolve, and recommit ourselves to the ideals that brought us together in the first place,” he said.
He further urged participants to uphold integrity and due process throughout the convention.
“As we continue the programme of this Convention, let us do so with maturity, mutual respect, and fidelity to due process. Conventions are not just periodic rituals; they are opportunities for institutional renewal—to deepen internal democracy, strengthen the party platform, reorganise our structure, and reaffirm our collective direction.
“I call on every delegate, aspirant, leader, and stakeholder to conduct themselves with integrity. Let no contest divide us, and let no outcome embitter us. At the end of this convention, our party must be the victor. We are one family, marching forward with clarity, discipline, and purpose,” he added.
President Tinubu reaffirmed the APC’s commitment to democratic principles, including the role of a credible opposition, while defending the Electoral Act 2026 as a product of due legislative process aimed at strengthening Nigeria’s electoral system.
Highlighting his administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, the President noted progress in infrastructure development, economic reforms, improved investor confidence, and declining inflation. He, however, acknowledged persistent challenges in the power sector and outlined measures to address them.
“Despite these achievements, we continue to face legacy issues such as electricity supply, debts to GENCOs and gas suppliers, and antiquated transmission infrastructure. We have announced plans to address this by establishing a Grid Asset Management Company, which will inject approximately 1,600 megawatts into a new grid corridor,” he stated.
The President also underscored the importance of youth and women’s participation in governance, pledging expanded opportunities for inclusive leadership within the party and government.
He urged delegates to maintain peace during the convention and called on newly elected party leaders to uphold integrity, transparency, and the core ideals of the APC.
President Tinubu commended the Convention Planning Committee for a job well done.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the Convention Planning Committee, led by Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari and Senator Anyim Pius Anyim. Your dedication and excellence have set a new standard for organisation and service,” he said.
He also acknowledged the contributions of key governors, including AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, Mai Mala Buni, Hope Uzodimma, and Dapo Abiodun, for their roles in ensuring the success of the convention.
“To all those who will be elected today: carry this trust with humility, fairness, and unwavering commitment to our party’s ideals. The future of APC, and Nigeria’s democracy, depends on your leadership. Lead with courage, integrity, and vision,” he added.
The President concluded by expressing confidence in the continued growth of the APC and its role in driving national development.
