West Africa Economic Summit Offers Countries Opportunity to Take Ownership of Economic Destiny-FG
Abuja (Core Reporters) Nigeria government has stated that the incoming West Africa Economic Summit (WAES) slated for June 20th and 21st, 2025 would in Abuja, would offer African countries rare opportunity to back the ownership of their economic destiny.
Nigerian Foreign Minister, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar insisted that the summit would enable West African countries to shape own economic prosperity with foreign interference. He said this on Tuesday during stakeholder engagement with West African Ambassadors on the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES).
According to Tuggar, “WAES offers a rare opportunity for West African countries to take ownership of their economic destiny by confronting the persistent barriers to intra-regional trade, fragmented infrastructure, and inconsistent regulatory environments.
“It provides a forum to articulate our common development priorities, promote scalable investments, and unlock youth-driven innovation.
“It is an initiative of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. It is rooted in his firm conviction expressed during his inaugural address as ECOWAS Chairman, that “we will work collectively to pursue an inclusive economic integration of West Africa, which will serve as a warning to exploiters that our people have suffered enough.”
“This Summit is designed as a high-level, non-political, and inclusive platform for West African economic integration. It brings together Heads of State, Ministers, private sector leaders, development partners, youth innovators, and entrepreneurs. Unlike past efforts rooted solely in institutional frameworks, WAES is grounded in the practical realities of our regional market and the immense potential of our people.”
