Vandals Strike Again as TCN Announces Collapse of Five Towers on Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV Line

Abuja (Core Reporters) Vandals have struck again, as the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the collapse of five transmission towers along the Ikot Abasi–Eket 132kV Double Circuit Transmission Line in Akwa Ibom State.
The incident, which was attributed to severe acts of vandalism, was discovered during a routine joint line patrol conducted by TCN linesmen on August 9, 2026.

According to TCN, a preliminary assessment showed that critical structural bracing members had been removed from Towers N9, N10, N11, N12, N13 and N15, resulting in the collapse of five towers.
Further inspection revealed that structural members from seven additional towers along the same transmission corridor had also been removed and stolen. The affected towers are now structurally compromised and at risk of further collapse.

To mitigate the impact on electricity supply, TCN said the network has been reconfigured to prioritise power supply from Ibom Power.
TCN Management is also mobilising an urgent intervention to facilitate the reconstruction of the affected sections of the transmission line.
The company added that security agencies have been notified to assist with investigations and prevent further acts of vandalism along the line route.
TCN condemned the incident as an act of sabotage and reiterated its commitment to maintaining a robust and reliable national electricity grid.
