Updated: Police Arraign Lebanese Firm, Four Others Over Alleged Forgery of Lagos Property Document

By Our  Crime Correspondent

The police have filed a charge against a Lebanese-owned property firm, M. El-Kalil & Sons Properties Limited, and four other defendants before the Federal High Court in Lagos over alleged forgery of a property document.

This was made known in a document obtained by Core Reporters on October 11, 2021

The other defendants are Francis Uzoaru, Ngozi Giwa-Amu, Obinna Chima and Frank Harden Limited.

The case, marked FHC/L/152C/21, was assigned to Justice Daniel Osiagor. The defendants’ arraignment, initially scheduled for October 4, 2021, was reportedly adjourned because the judge was away on an official assignment in Abuja.

The arraignment was subsequently rescheduled for October 18, 2021.

According to the charge, the defendants allegedly conspired between March 2003 and November 2020 in Lagos to make or utter a forged document relating to a property formerly known as No. 3/5 Bankole Street, Lagos, and now identified as No. 33 Balogun Street, Lagos.

The document in question is a Deed of Transfer dated November 2, 1956.

The charge identified Uzoaru, 58, as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Frank Harden Limited; Giwa-Amu, 58, as the Company Secretary of M. El-Kalil & Sons Properties Limited; and Chima, 50, as the Legal Manager for Operations and Compliance of the property firm.

Frank Harden Limited and M. El-Kalil & Sons Properties Limited were also listed as defendants in the case.

The prosecution alleged that the defendants acted in concert to commit a felony by making or uttering the disputed document, an offence punishable under Section 1(2)(c) of the Miscellaneous Offences Act, Cap M17, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

The allegations are contained in the charge before the court. The defendants’ arraignment and the determination of the case remain subject to the proceedings of the court.
