A petitioner before the independent investigative panel on Human Rights Violation by the defunct SARS and other units of the Nigerian police force. Saadatu Sulaiman is seeking N30 million compensation for an alleged unlawful arrest and detention by the police in Zuba, Abuja.
Sulaiman informed the investigative panel on Tuesday that she was arrested in proxy while the police was looking for tye managing director of Famzhi Interbiz limited, Hajiya Mariam Sulieman Omayoza
However, the counsel to a petitioner S.O Abang told the Independent panel that his petition to the Inspector General of Police on behalf of his client led to the removal of CSP Badewole Bola as DPO Zuba police station.
The counsel made this statement while cross examining CSP Badewole before the panel. Abang noted that the actions of the IPO in the matter were as a result of the DPO’s influence.
While under cross examination CSP Bola told the panel that on October 29, 2020 while at Tungan Maje to secure palliatives, he received a call that some people brought themselves to the station with a complaint of investing the sum of N7 million in Famzhi.
He said that all efforts to get paid proved abortive and at the time Saadatu was the manager of the company and the money was invested with her consent.
According to him he quickly went to the station, detained her and assigned an IPO to the matter furthermore he told the IPO she should be released on bail but if nobody comes for her she should be charged to court.
However, he was transferred out of Zuba, Abuja on Monday November 2, 2020, as at then the area Commander Kubwa, Abuja had asked that the matter be withdrawn in court and transferred to him.
It may be recall that the complainant earlier in her testimony before the panel narrated how she was unlawfully arrested in proxy by the Police while they were looking for the managing director of Famzhi Interbiz limited, Hajiya Mariam Sulieman Omayoza,
She testified before the panel that upon her arrest she was detained for seven days between October 29 2020 to November 6 2020.
Narrating further the petitioner said four men came to her residence in Kubwa Abuja and asks her to follow them to the police station; according to her she was taken to Zuba, Abuja police station and was detained for 7 days she efforts to bail her out were rebuffed by the DPO Mr. Bola.
Continuing in her testimony, she said after Famzhi interbiz limited deposited two vehicles to facilitate her release the DPO allegedly refused but rather kept raining insults at her.
