Unite like your forefathers, Ohaneze Coordinator tells Ndigbo in Northern Nigeria
By Ekunkonye Junior, Abuja
Augustine Chimezie Amaechi Esq, the Coordinator of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide in the 19 states of Northern Nigeria and Abuja, has urged Ndigbo in Northern Nigeria to emulate their forefathers by promoting unity and love. He encouraged them to finance projects in both the East and North, just as their ancestors contributed to the development of Northern Nigeria.
Speaking to our correspondent over the weekend through a telephone interview, the Coordinator also advocated for a significant number of slots to be allocated to Ohaneze Ndigbo in the North during the January 2025 leadership election. This, he believes, will enable them to play a more prominent role in the organization.
Historically, Ohaneze Ndigbo has been a strong advocate for Igbo rights and interests. In 2016, the youth wing of the organization declared that Ndigbo are the landlords of Nigeria and cannot leave the country. They emphasized that they will continue to seek justice, equity, and fair play for all Nigerians.
It’s worth noting that Ohaneze Ndigbo has faced criticism and controversy in the past. Some have accused the organization of being divided, with different factions having different agenda. However, Amaechi’s call for unity and cooperation among Ndigbo in the North is a step in the right direction.
