Troops Neutralise 11 Terrorists, Recover Weapons, Motorcyscles in Borno, Adamawa States
Troops of Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have continued to sustain aggressive operations against Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, with two successful encounters recorded in Kukawa and Umbo general areas of Borno and Adamawa States. In the first encounter on 15 September 2025, at about 8:00am, troops of Sector 3 on a scanning and picketing patrol along the Baga–Cross Kauwa Main Supply Route in Kukawa Local Government Area were ambushed by terrorists who detonated a Command Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and opened fire on the patrol team.
The troops stood their ground and engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to retreat before reinforcements arrived. Follow-up reports confirmed that eight terrorists were neutralised, including two *Munzirs* and one *Qaid*. They were identified as Modu Dogo Munzir of Dogon Chukun, an unidentified Munzir, and Abu Aisha Qaid of Tumbun Mota. Several other fighters sustained gunshot wounds.
Items recovered included 14 motorcycles, AK-47 rifles with magazines, rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, anti-aircraft links, and several blankets as well as other sundry items to include drugs.Two gun trucks which could not be extricated due to terrain conditions around Alargarno and Doro Naira were subsequently destroyed and additional terrorists neutralised by the Air Component of OPHK with precision guidance support from the MNJTF ISR platform. Importantly, no casualty was recorded among troops.
In a separate operation the same day, troops of Sector 1 in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and hunters conducted offensive operations at Umbo in Madagali LGA of Adamawa State. During the encounter, additional three terrorists were neutralised, while others fled with gunshot wounds. Troops recovered AK-47 rifles, several rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and one Itel mobile phone from the scene. There was no casualty recorded on the part of their own troops.
The Military High Command while commending the troops’ commitment to sustaining ongoing counter-terrorism efforts in the North East also called on residents to continue to support military operations with timely and credible information.
In another development and in a decisive operation, troops of 6 Brigade Nigerian Army / Sector 3 Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have neutralized two terrorists and recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition in Takum Local Government Area, Taraba State. The operation is part of the ongoing “OPERATION LAFIYA NAKOWA” to eliminate terrorist and criminal activities across the state.
Acting on credible intelligence on September 15, 2025, regarding a planned attack on the Chanchanji community by the Bojo terrorist group, troops swiftly deployed to the area. The operation led to an armed engagement with the terrorists along the Demeva–Chanchanji road. The troops effectively neutralized one terrorist, forcing the others to retreat.
In a follow-up mission to intercept the fleeing suspects, troops pursued them to the Demeva–Gbudu axis. This location was identified as a planned crossing point into the Ananum community in Donga LGA. The troops engaged the remaining terrorists in a second firefight, neutralizing one more.
The items recovered from the operations include: One (1) G3 rifle, Sixteen (16) rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition and One (1) motorcycle.
The Commander of 6 Brigade / Sector 3 OPWS, Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism. He reaffirmed the Brigade’s unwavering commitment to conducting aggressive operations against all criminal elements threatening the peace of Taraba State and its environs.
Brigadier General Uwa also urged the public to remain vigilant and to continue providing timely and credible information to security agencies to support the ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace in the region.
