TCN Tower Collapse Disrupts Power Supply to Keffi, Akwanga

Abuja (Core Reporters) – The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has announced the temporary unavailability of all 33kV outgoing feeders at the 132/33kV Keffi and 132/33kV Akwanga Transmission Substations following the collapse of three transmission towers along the Karu-Keffi-Akwanga 132kV transmission line corridor.

TCN said Towers T78, T79 and T80 collapsed at about 4:06pm on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, during rainy and windy conditions.

According to the company, the 132kV Karu-Keffi-Akwanga Single Circuit Transmission Line initially tripped on overcurrent relay protection before investigations revealed that the three towers had collapsed.

TCN said it immediately isolated the affected line as a safety measure.

Consequently, all 33kV outgoing feeders at the Keffi and Akwanga transmission substations are currently unavailable, meaning no load can be nominated on the affected feeders until further notice.

The company said its engineers are already on site assessing the extent of the damage and determining the materials and other requirements needed to commence restoration work.

“TCN regrets the inconvenience this development will cause electricity customers taking supply from substations affected by the tower incident,” the company said.

It appealed to affected electricity customers for patience, assuring them that every effort would be made to complete the necessary repairs as quickly as possible and restore bulk power supply.

TCN also said it would continue to provide updates on the restoration efforts.
