TCN Declares Force Majeure on Offa 132kV Transmission Station Over Robbery Attack

The Transmission Company of Nigeria, Osogbo Region, has declared force majeure on the Offa 132kV Transmission Station following a robbery incident at the facility.
According to the company, heavily armed men forcefully gained access to the control room and held personnel on duty hostage at gunpoint. The attackers reportedly ordered the operator on duty to open the Offa and Ojoku 33kV feeders at about 12:45 a.m. on Thursday, 7 May 2026, before demanding a total shutdown of the substation.
During the incident, control switches and relay buttons were tampered with, while the 40MVA transformer was shut down at about 1:07 a.m.
The company said the 40MVA transformer was restored at 1:13 a.m., the Offa 33kV feeder at 1:14 a.m., and the Ojoku 33kV feeder at 2:15 a.m.
The Transmission Company of Nigeria expressed regret over the disruption caused by the incident and reaffirmed its commitment to the efficient transmission of bulk electricity to distribution companies’ load centres nationwide
