The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development on Thursday announced the shut down the swimming pool at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja with immediate effect.
According to the statement from the Director of Press & Public Relations, Mohammed Manga which was made available to New National Star yesterday, the ministry has ordered all activities within the pool area to be suspended till further notice.
The shut down of the Stadium swimming pool followed the unfortunate death of a 13-year-old boy, Matthew Godwin on Tuesday, during the festive season.
Godwin was found dead at the swimming pool after been drowned
Meanwhile, the statement said, the Ministry has ordered a full scale investigation into the immediate and remote causes of the incident and the activities that led to it in a bid to forestall future recurrence.
However, the statement further said, a delegation from the Ministry has since paid the family of the deceased a condolence visit.
