As part of exercise going on at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), shanties and all other form of structures along Idu, Karmo, Gwagwa, Dei Dei and other villages leading to Dei Dei junction are have been removed by the the owners in compliance with the directive of the Minister, Nyesom Wike.
The cause of the removal of the shelters, this reporter gathered, was as a result of the move by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) minister, Barr Nyesom Wike to expand the road, even as he was reported as saying that he would stop at nothing until the road expansion is carried out.
A part of Karmo market known for it prompt to fire outbreak is seriously affected. Even the popular St Matthew’s Catholic Church and a Mosque that was just reconstructed, located in the Karmo market, including Deeper Life and St Philip’s Anglican Churches in the area, among others are said to be affected.
Recalled that these areas suffered sledge hammer of the authority in 2006, resulting to the demolition of structures built in the villages located in that area.
It would also be recalled that apart from suffering from gigantic conflagration yearly by Karmo market and the traders, this market was destroyed by inferno in 2006.
Although some of the affected people wouldn’t talk to our reporter when approached, with the reason that they weren’t in the mood, but few who spoke on the ground of anonymity similarly said that they had over the time been experiencing such disaster. They also added that when the threat was made, they didn’t know that it would be as serious as they have been experiencing.
“We think that this time around, the authority would have put the hardship in the country into consideration, before taking this action, but that was never be” one of them noted.
