It is no longer news that the people of Cross River Central Senatorial District are no longer at ease with the representation of Professor Sandy Ojong Onor at the Nigeria senate as their Senator after about 18 months in the Red Chambers.
Specifically, members of the People Democratic Party (PDP) from the central senatorial district are regretting voting him to represent them at the Senate during the 2019 general elections, saying that since his emergence the more they look at him the less they understand him
Mr. Paul Obongha who hailed from Obubra told this reporter exclusively that they are regretting giving Prof. Onor the mandate to represent them at the senate, adding that the former Etung Local Government chairman has failed to match the shoes of his predecessors.
Obongha said Onor did not visit his party’s structure within Obubra during the Christmas period, nor did he send a message to them as it is the culture of elected officers in the state and Central Senatorial district in particular.
On her part, Magdaline Okamgbe alleged that despite the efforts of the Boki people during the election of Prof. Onor to represent them at the senate, the Senior Legislative Aide (SLA) to Senator Onor has turned them into enemies, stressing that their visit to his office has always met with brick’s wall.
She said, “Sen. Onor has not only made his 0.4 office at the Senate wing of the National Assembly Complex a secret one for himself but he has also decided to abandon us his constituents. Take for instance, during the festive period that elected officers normally used as an opportunity to come and re-affirmed us that they still appreciate the mandate we gave them during the election, we waited and did not see him.”
She alleged that during the COVID-19 Lockdown elected officers, especially federal legislators shared palliatives to their constituents in other senatorial districts but Prof. Onor could not see any reason to do the same.
“However, what could be seen as a Christmas gift to us was the purported facilitation of road construction from Ogoja through Kakwagom Osokom in Boki, are we going to feed on road construction,” she queried.
In the same vein, Mr. Sylvanu Ayuk has advised Sen. Onor to change his mode of operation if he wishes to return to the senate in 2023 otherwise he would be shown the exit door.
