Senator Ngwu Visits TCN’s 9th Mile 132/33kV Transmission Substation
By Gabriel Kekong
Enugu (Core Reporters) The Senator representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Engr. Dr. Osita Ngwu, recently visited the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) 9th Mile 132/33kV Transmission Substation in Enugu State to assess the facility and receive updates on its operational status.
The Senator was received by the Assistant General Manager (Transmission), Enugu Sub-Region, Engr. Madu, alongside other management staff.
During the visit, Engr. Madu briefed the Senator on the status of the substation, explaining that although the facility was completed by the Niger Delta Power Holding Company (NDPHC) in 2022, it is yet to be commissioned due to the non-completion of the approximately 22-kilometre New Haven–9th Mile 132kV double-circuit transmission line. He identified Right-of-Way (RoW) constraints as the major challenge delaying completion of the transmission line.
He further explained that completing the transmission line is critical to energising and commissioning the substation, which will significantly improve bulk power supply to the 9th Mile industrial hub and surrounding communities. He also stressed the need for adequate security to protect the facility from vandalism pending its commissioning.
In his remarks, Senator Ngwu acknowledged the urgency of addressing the identified challenges and pledged to support efforts aimed at resolving the Right-of-Way constraints and strengthening security around the facility to safeguard the critical transmission infrastructure.
The visit concluded with a guided tour of the control room, switchyard, and other key installations within the substation.
