This followed a motion title, “Incessant Killings In Ebonyi State” sponsored by Senator Joseph Obinna Ogba representing ‘Ebonyi Central’ at the National Assembly.

While moving the motion on the floor of the Senate on Wednesday, Obinna Ogba drew the attention of his colleagues at the upper chambers to the incident that happened on March 30, 2021, where suspected herdsmen unleashed mayhem at Obeagu, Egedegede and Nkalagu communities inIgboesa clan, Ishiela Local Government of the state and killed over 21 persons, injured many and burn down shops, cars and motorcycles.

He stated that there has been consistent attacks in the three senatorial districts in the state by suspected herdsmen coupled with the lingering communal crisis between Ezza-Effium and Effium people in the Ohaukwu Local government area of the state since the beginning of this year, which he said has resulted in the killing of many and destruction of properties worth millions of naira.

Obinna Ogba expressed concern over the recent attacks on policemen where he said on April 14, three police officers were shut down at a checkpoint in Abakaliki and their rifles carted away

However, the senate condemns in strong terms the various attacks on communities in Ebonyi state by alleged herdsmen which have led to death and destructions in the state.

The Senate also mandated the National EmmergencyManagement Agency {NEMA) to provide relief materials o all the displaced victims of the communities involved in communal crisis especially; Ezza-Effium, Effium communities, Ikwo and Izzi LGA in the state.

While urging the federal government to put appropriate measures in place to forestall further attacks.
