Sen.Okpebholo assures Edo people he will not betray confidence reposed in him and deputy, as he takes over mantle of leadership
The newly sworn-in governor of Edo state, Senator Monday Okpebholo has assured the people of Edo state that he and his deputy, Rt. Denis Idahosa will not betray the confidence reposed on them, which was why the gave them the mandate to lead the state in the next four years.
Okpebholo gave the assurance on Tuesday while delivering his inaugural address to the people shortly after he was sworn-In as Edo state governor. He takes over from Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who governed the state in the last eight years.
“Okpebholo said, “We will not betray this confidence you have reposed in me and the deputy governor Rt Hon. Dennis Idahosa. The welfare of our citizens is a top priority to us.” He said, “For me, this is a humbling moment made possible by you all. Today, you have officially given me the mandate to preside over our dear state as governor for the next four years.
“Let me start by thanking God for His grace and incredible blessings. Democracy has triumphed again in our dear state,” the governor said.
He promised to strengthen the security of the state, link communities together by road, and support small businesses to boost the economy.
The ceremony took place at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin City, the state capital, two months after the All Progressives Congress (APC) clinched the ticket to the Dennis Osadebe House.
Okpebholo took his oath of office alongside his running mate Dennis Idahosa, while describing the moment as the triumph of democracy.
However, Vice President Kashim Shettima who represented President Bola Tinubu led governors elwcyed under the APC and some Ministers as well as serving senators among other dignitaries to the event in Benin city.
Recall that Okpebholo defeated Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the September 21, gubernatorial election, polling 291,667 as against the PDP candidate with 247,274 votes while Labour Party (LP)’s Olumide Akpata recorded 22,763 votes in the polls contested by fourteen candidates.
