Filled with relegation grips, fans of Nasarawa United, a Nigerian Professional Football League (NPFL) side, have called on the state governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule to save the club from being consumed by the relegation murky waters of the ongoing 2022/23 season.
The ‘Save Our Soul (Club)’ message sent to the governor has become imperative after it has become obvious that the Lafia-based NPFL side are gradually going down by the day having played six games in the ongoing season losing five and drawing one, thereby sitting at the extreme bottom of the abridge league table with only one point against the table toppers Bendel Insurance who are having sixteen points in six games.
Some ardent fans of the club who spoke with Core Reporters in separate interviews said, if Gov. Sule did not do something urgently, they believe their darling club; Nasarawa United on the verge of being relegated at the end of the season.
One of the fans, Aliyu Abdullahi in a phone interview said, he has lost hope in the current management team and technical crew of the club, therefore, calling governor Sule to wade in immediately in order to save the team from relegation.
According to him, “Look at what happened in Wikki Tourists, immediately their coach resigned after it was obvious they were plans to sack him, and the club just won their first game of the six-old season. So, if Isaac Danladi led management team can’t sack the coach, the governor should sack both of them so that the new management and technical crew will bring in fresh ideas and save the team from going on relegation.”
Also, Akwe Madaki said, they (fans) of Nasarawa United can’t afford not to be watching the club playing in the NPFL next season.
He noted that the team needs fresh ideas if they must come out from the relegation murky waters unscratched. Therefore, urged governor Sule to act faster otherwise, nothing will save the club from being relegated.
However, Nasarawa Utd, though currently playing their home games in Jos, Plateau State capital because of the ongoing renovation at the Lafia stadium have lost five of their six games so far played this season and drew one.
They have conceded 12 goals-averagely two per match, and score only four goals-averagely less than one per game.
Meanwhile, the choice now is for Gov. Sule to either adhere to the plead of the fans and do the needful so that the club will remain in the NPFL or turn his face away from them and have the club relegated at the end of the season.
