Just as the world was taken aback by the news of Lionel Messi switching over from Barcelona to Paris Saint-Germain (PSG), a football analyst, Charles Ohaji has predicted that the combination of the former Barcelona skipper, Messi, Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior and Kylian Mbape at PSG’s attack will post a serious threat to their opponents both in the French League One and the Champions League.
Ohaji said the combination of the trio will define a new era in Uefa Champions League when the season eventually kicks off later, stressing that it will be a delight to watch a six-times Ballon d’Or winner, Messi squarely up in the attack along side, 2018 FIFA World Cup Best Young Player Award winner, Mbape and 2011 Fifa young player award winner, Neymar.
Recalled that Messi completed his medical last Tuesday and sealed his move to the French club on a two-year deal with an option for a third5-worth 25 million pounce per year after tax, plus bonuses.
Ohaji said, “This is the moment fans across the world have been waiting for where Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbape and Neymar da Silva Santos Júnior will lead PGS’ attack with the view to win Champions League trophy for the French League One giant.”
According to him, PSG will adopt a 3-4-3 formation whereby the trio will be unleashed on their opponents at every giving moment considering the fact that PSG also got good midfielders and defence as well.
He said, the implication of having the trio in the attack is that any team PSG is playing with now; the team would have to keep five players behind to mark them.
He noted further that, if five players are already on three players the rest five will be up against PSG’s seven players and the result thereafter will definitely be more goals to be scored.
“When PSG is playing 3-4-3 formation means their opponents will be forced to keep five players behind to contain the trio. You are playing a team of eleven players with the goalkeeper, and you keep five players behind to contain three attackers definitely other five of your players will be slugging it out with PSG seven players who are mainly midfielders and defenders, so you can see the danger many clubs will face when they jam PSG in the champions league.
“I see a situation where PSG will always take over the midfield of their opponents and dominate other departments too because they’ve got a lot of good players both in the defence and midfield as well as the goal post.
“What we are going to be expecting from PSG with Messi, Neymar and Mbape in attack is nothing both multiple goals in every match because it will take the grace of God for their opponents to be able to contain them.
“Mbape is young, specious and can score, so is Neymar who is also very intelligent and skilful and Messi the master of the game-very skilful, intelligent, free-kick specialist and what one can think of a player.
“What I saw is a situation where clubs would suffer to contain the trio in the attack. Though in football sometimes luck plays a key role too but on average, PSG has got the right material to win the next Uefa Champions League’s trophy.
However, Ohaji noted that the team will be built around Messi with Mbape being the point man while Neymar and Messi play from the flank.
Meanwhile, he said the problem PSG might have will come from their coach, Mauricio Pochettino because he has not won any trophy recently, therefore, his ability to coup with the calibres of players in the team will matter.
