Poland 2026 WCQ: Governor Makinde Rewards Victorious Falconets With $15,000
Ibadan (Core Reporters) In his quest to convincing the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on the need to be bringing national teams home games to Ibadan, Oyo State Governor Engineer Oluseyi Makinde has rewarded the victorious Falconets, Nigeria’s U20 girls’ team, with $15,000 for their 4-0 win over Rwanda in a 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifying match at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan.
The Falconets’ goals were scored by Precious Oscar, Tumininu Adeshina, Janet Akekoromowei, and Alaba Olabiyi, securing a 5-0 aggregate win and a spot in the next round against either Senegal or Algeria in February 2026.
The team played with purpose and passion, dominating the match from the start. Precious Oscar opened the scoring in the 13th minute, followed by a stunning free kick from Fatimah in the 16th minute. Janet Akekoromowei scored the third goal with a beautiful left-footed shot from outside the box in the 63rd minute, and Afolabi sealed the win with the fourth goal in stoppage time.
The Falconets will now face the winner of the Senegal vs. Algeria match in the third round of the African qualifiers. The first leg will take place on February 6, 7, or 8, 2026, and the second leg on February 12, 13, or 14, 2026.
Governor Makinde’s reward aims to encourage the team and promote football development in Oyo State, as he seeks to convince the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to bring national teams’ home games to Ibadan
