Avuja (Core Reporters) Senator Abba Moro, Senate Minority Leader has assured that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shall soon bounce back to reckoning in the country’s political space.
The former Minister of Interior under former president, Goodluck Jonathan while speaking after the PDP National Assembly caucus meeting on Wednesday in his office in Abuja said the party is currently facing avalanche of set backs, but reiterates that in the subsequent elections they will regain their electoral strength.
Moro is a key member of the PDP, out of the three senators representing Benue State, he is the only one that return to the senate under the umbrella of the PDP.
While fielding questions from journalists shortly after the meeting Moro insisted that the PDP National Assembly caucus were seriously concern about the party’s recent setbacks and ongoing efforts to prepare for future electoral challenges.
But despite the recent setbacks, losses in gubernatorial elections in Edo and Ondo State respectively, he noted that the PDP remains resilient and is strategizing to strengthen the party.
On the outcome of their meeting Moro said, “We discussed the affairs of the party, particularly as we approach a critical meeting of the National Executive Council (NEC) to take vital decisions on the state of the PDP.
“We are intensifying efforts to ensure the party grows stronger and prepares for subsequent elections without distractions,” he said.
On the allegations of vote buying which according to some persons have charaterised the nation’s recent elections, he said, “Everyone is worried about Nigeria’s democracy. INEC has faced criticism, but every failure is a lesson. We must ensure that mandates stolen from the people, like in Edo State, are restored. Failure should become a mechanism for future success.”
He dismissed allegations of PDP acting “ acting chairman, Damagun and the minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike anti-party activities, saying that PDP is about all its members and not specific individuals. Adding that “We are working round the clock to return the PDP to its winning ways.”
“Anyone working against the PDP today will have to contend with the resilience of PDP members,” he warned.
