NWFL Super Six Qualification: FCT SWAN Congratulates Naija Ratels, Edeh
The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter, has congratulated Naija Ratels Football Club and its President, Barrister (Dr) Paul Edeh, on the club’s qualification for the 2024/25 Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership Super Six Playoffs.
The Abuja-based club secured the final Super Six spot following a goalless draw with Bayelsa Queens on Matchday 14, concluding the regular season in style.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Comrade Kelechi Onwudiwe, and Secretary, Samuel Ahmadu on Thursday, FCT SWAN commended the club for its resilience and consistent performance throughout the regular season campaign, which culminated in a well-deserved place among Nigeria’s elite women’s football teams.
The Association noted that this marks Naija Ratels’ second Super Six qualification in three consecutive seasons in the NWFL Premiership since gaining promotion to the top-flight in 2022.
The Abuja-based team has shown steady growth and determination at the highest level, further underlined by their impressive run to the final of the 2023 President Federation Cup, where they finished as runners-up after a narrow 1-0 loss to Rivers Angels in Lagos.
FCT SWAN particularly lauded Barrister (Dr) Paul Edeh, who is also a patron of FCT SWAN, for his visionary leadership and unrelenting support for the development of women’s football, not only in the FCT but across the country.
“His commitment, the statement noted, has played a pivotal role in shaping Naija Ratels into a competitive and admired force in the NWFL Premiership,” the statement read.
“Naija Ratels’ qualification for the Super Six is a proud moment for football stakeholders in the FCT and a clear reflection of what passion, structure, and long-term planning can achieve in the women’s game,” it added.
FCT SWAN expressed confidence in the team’s ability to make a strong impact at the Super Six Playoffs, scheduled to take place in Ikenne, Ogun State, from May 8 to 17, 2025, and pledged continued support for the club.
Ratels will battle alongside title holders Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, Remo Stars Ladies and Nasarawa Amazons for the coveted trophy.
