Abuja (Core Reporters) The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ FCT Council) has constituted a 7-man credentials committee to conduct an elections into the executive committee of the council.
A press statement issued by the out going executives which was jointly signed by the outgoing chairman and secretary: Comrade Osaretin Osadebamwen and Ochiaka Ugwu
respectively said, “Inline with the NUJ Constitution, Article (5:9a-g) the Congress of the FCT Council on Saturday, October 19, 2024, nominated and endorsed the following members as members of the 2024 Credentials Committee:
“Members of the committee include, Kemi Kindness (Love FM) Chairperson of the Committee, Vin Oliji (VON) member, Tersoo Zamber (FRCN) member, Emeka Nze (Blueprint) member, Henrietta Momodu (EBS) member, Francisca Ogar (ITV) member and Godfrey Akon (The Abuja Inquirer) Secretary.
The committee was mandated to conduct a free, fair and credible elections that will stand the test of time.
Core Reporters understand some members who are known for desperation attempted to disrupt the process, but members rose to the occasion.
Recall that In 2018, a certain executive member of the correspondent chapel during the Chapel ‘s elections mobilised thugs from other chapels and invaded the council secretariat in Utako Abuja where the election was held, disrupted the elections and was not penalized even when it was obvious that thugs were smuggled into the council for the act.
As his stock in trade, our reporter who was at the congress on Saturday in Utako report that the same member who now head one of the chapels led a sinister group just to undermine a section of the NUJ constitution which allows the council chairman to recognise members for appointment of the credentials committee.
Meanwhile, after a fail attempt, the credentials committee members were successfully inaugurated and have commenced their duty in ernest.
Notwithstanding, the ongoing chairman, Osadebamwen addressed members of the national assembly New Media Forum on Friday during their monthly congress held at the council’s secretariat, Utako and assured that the forth coming elections was going to be conducted on December 4, 2024.
