Senators of the 10th Assembly from the northern extraction under the auspices of Northern Senators Forum (NSF) have urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to as matter of humanitarian gesture, restore electricity supply to Niger Republic in line with the Nigeria-Niger treaty mandate.
The Senators after a meeting on Tuesday also condemned in strong terms the spate of military intervention in the democratic space in West African sub-region. While condemning particularly the coup in Niger Republic.
In a communique issued after the meeting on Tuesday in Abuja, NSF urged the military junta in Niger Republic to soften the relationship with the rest of ECOWAS Community by setting free President Mohammed Bazoh and his immediate family to freely the country of his choice.
The NSF further urged the junta in Niger to bring about a transition timetable that will last not more than two (2) years period.
Also, it urged the ECOWAS to lift restrictions on Niger Republic in the interest of business and border communities.
It is important that Nigerien should not suffer because of the coup that took place just as we have seen in Gaza.
“We urge the President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces and of course the Chairman of ECOWAS, Senator Ahmed Bola Tinubu to as a matter of humanitarian gesture, restore electricity supply to Niger Republic in line with the Nigeria-Niger treaty mandate.
“We therefore call on the attention of Nigerien that we remain brothers, partners, Africans and above all, we remain human beings,” the communique reads
