Abuja (Core Reporters) The Northern Senators Forum has called for an urgent restoration of power in three northern state of Kano,  Jigawa, and Katsina state.

This was sequel to a devastating power outages plaguing Kano, Katsina, and Jigawa states.

In a heartfelt appeal in Katsina on Friday October 25, 2024, Senator Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, Chairman of the Forum, has urged the Federal Government to intervene promptly to restore electricity to these affected regions.

Core Reporters report that the ongoing outages, resulting from vandalism and national grid disturbances, have brought economic hardship, compromised healthcare delivery, and imposed expensive fuel costs on citizens. Small businesses are struggling to operate, hospitals are facing increased running costs, and livelihoods are being severely impacted [1)

The Northern Senators Forum  however, urged the government to expedite repairs, prioritize repairs on the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines to restore reliable power supply.

They said to enhance security, FG should Implement measures to prevent future vandalism and protect power infrastructure.

They  back KEDCO’s initiatives for renewable energy and Mini Grid solutions to provide sustainable power options.

According to the statement,  “the Forum acknowledged the progress made in power distribution under the current administration and appreciates efforts to improve the sector. However, the situation demands urgent attention to alleviate the suffering of constituents and revitalize economic activities.”.
