By Our Reporter
Abuja (Core Reporters) — The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has pledged to intensify public enlightenment on the proper observance of the national flag following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of three days of national mourning over the deaths of Nigerian Air Force personnel in an aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ondo State.
Director-General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, said the Agency would ensure greater compliance with the directive to fly the Nigerian flag at half-mast throughout the mourning period.
Issa-Onilu, who condoled with the Nigerian Air Force and families of the deceased personnel, described the incident as a painful loss to the nation, saying the fallen officers and personnel demonstrated courage, discipline, patriotism and commitment to national service.
He said their sacrifices in the service of Nigeria would not be forgotten, urging citizens to observe the mourning period with the dignity and respect befitting the personnel who paid the supreme price.
According to him, the national flag remains a powerful symbol of Nigeria’s sovereignty, unity and shared identity, making its proper observance particularly important during a period of national mourning.
The NOA Director-General also commiserated with the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, expressing solidarity with the service as it mourns its fallen colleagues.
He extended the Agency’s condolences to the families of the deceased, acknowledging the pain of losing loved ones who were serving the country and praying that God would grant them strength and comfort.
Issa-Onilu urged Nigerians to use the mourning period to reflect on the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces and the collective responsibility of citizens to uphold patriotism, national unity and respect for national symbols.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed personnel and for God to grant their families, colleagues and the Nigerian Air Force the fortitude to bear the loss.
He reaffirmed NOA’s commitment to promoting national values, civic responsibility and proper respect for Nigeria’s national symbols across the country.
