January 30, 2021 kicks off date for the 2020/21 Nigeria National League (NNL) may not be realizable as the league management has reported that only one out of the 46 clubs has completed its registration, Corereporters report.

NNL however, has called for an emergency congress to enable its stakeholders agree on the new date for the commencement of the league.

Consequently,  NNL management has proposed  February 3, 2021 for the new date for the commencement of the league, though subject to ratification  by the congress.

In a statement by the head of media and communication, NNL,  Amar Ignis, the league management said the decision to move the kick off date forward was done in order to allow clubs to complete their registration before the new date so that no club would be left behind.

According to the statement, “The decision for the emergency congress has become critical following the inability of the forty six(46) clubs to meet requirements for registration .

“Only one club from the lot, has met the registration conditions for the 2020-2021 season, as at the time of putting this release together.

“This development has necessitated adjustment in the kick off date for the new season earlier scheduled to begin Saturday 30th January,2021.

“And subject to Congress debate and ratification the management of NNL has adjusted the kick off to Wednesday 3rd February,2021.

“Therefore, we urged the clubs yet to comply with registration formalities without further delay  on or before Monday 1st February,2021,” the statement reads.
