The Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, has stated that the Nigerian Navy is ready to partner with relevant organisations to enhance indigenous shipbuilding capacity and strengthen naval operations.
He made this known following a courtesy visit by the Managing Director of ASELSAN Nigeria Limited, Amadou Ndongo Thiam, to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja. The engagement, he noted, aligns with the Navy’s strategic objective of fostering partnerships that support local content development, technology transfer, and sustainable capability growth.

During the visit, the ASELSAN delegation expressed readiness to establish a long-term partnership with the Nigerian Navy, focusing on joint ventures, collaboration with indigenous shipyards, and the integration of advanced defence technologies.
The company highlighted its expertise in areas such as unmanned systems, infrared search and track systems, integrated combat solutions, and the modernisation of naval platforms. The delegation also visited Naval Dockyard Limited, where ongoing construction of Seaward Defence Boats further demonstrated opportunities for synergy with Nigeria’s growing indigenous shipbuilding capacity.
In his remarks, Vice Admiral Abbas described the engagement as timely and strategic, stressing that the Nigerian Navy remains committed to partnerships that will deliver tangible technology transfer and strengthen the nation’s defence industrial base.
He emphasised the importance of structured collaborations, particularly through government-to-government frameworks, to ensure transparency, efficiency, and alignment with national security priorities, while positioning the Navy for enhanced maritime security operations.
