Nigeria, Spain Sign MoU to Strengthen Bilateral Relations
Nigeria and Spain have taken a significant step towards strengthening their bilateral relations, marking a new era of cooperation between the two nations. The historic meeting between the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares of Spain and Yusuf Maitama Tuggar of Nigeria, set the stage for enhanced collaboration in various fields.
The meeting, which took place within the framework of the Spain-Africa Strategy 2025-2028, aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Spain and Nigeria. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on political consultations was signed, establishing a mechanism for regular dialogue to advance areas of mutual interest and consolidate cooperation between the two countries
Their cooperation will further centered on enhancing trade and investment between the two nations, combating terrorism and transnational organized crime, promoting cultural exchange and educational cooperation, developing renewable energy sources and promoting energy efficiency and also to mitigating the effects of climate change and promoting sustainable development.
They also discussed the regional situation, particularly in the Sahel and West Africa, highlighting the importance of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as a key player in regional stability and development. They shared concerns regarding the situations in Gaza and Ukraine, reaffirming their commitment to peace, stability, and respect for international law.
This development underscores Nigeria’s strategic importance to Spain in West Africa, recognizing the country’s vital role in promoting stronger relations between the European Union and the African continent.
